League of Legends: How the summer split of the Prime League panned out

Familiar finale—with the same outcome?

An exciting summer split comes to an end. As in the spring split, the two finalists were FC Schalke 04 Evolution and mousesports. Did the team from Gelsenkirchen manage to beat mousesports again, or was it sweet revenge, and how did the regular split go? We look back at the complete split, the related playoffs, and the final of the Prime League.

RECARO Gaming is the official supplier of the League of Legends Prime League.

The Prime League summer split in review

The long-established organizations Unicorns of Love (USE), mousesports, FC Schalke 04 Evolution, and GamerLegion were once again able to assert themselves in the group phase and qualify for the playoffs. While the standings were more clearly divided in the spring split of the Prime League, the summer split remained close until the very last matchday. Despite a win by BIG over EURONICS Gaming, the surprise team of the season, OP innogy eSport, managed to make the playoffs with its own victory over mYinsanity.

This was also reflected in the tight standings throughout the split. The boys from GamerLegion and Schalke were able to build up a small cushion over the course of the season.

In addition to the well-known playoff participants and the surprise team from Essen, the representatives of EURONIC Gaming also secured a place in the Prime League playoffs.

There were some big surprises in the group phase, but it was the favored teams who all came out on top in the playoff matches.

The table after the last regular matchday of the Prime League Pro Divison.

After losing their two group matches against OP innogy eSports, Unicorn lived up to their role as favorites in the playoffs and won 2–0 in the lower bracket. Eventual finalists mousesports also lived up to their role as favorites, beating EURONICS Gaming 2–0, and even eliminating the Unicorns and GamerLegion, who were better placed in the group phase.

Therefore, the second finalist from Gelsenkirchen only had to win against the first-placed GamerLegion in the upper bracket. And so the Prime League had its finalists.

Revenge is sweet

The final was therefore the same as in the spring split: S04 Evolution against mouz.

The games were played in a best-of-five format, and the matches were intense.

In the first game and after some initial sparring, mousesports managed to gain a tactical advantage and put Schalke under targeted pressure. The foundation for a victorious first round was laid. In the course of the first game, S04 tried to nullify this advantage, but mouz acted calmly and did not allow this advantage to be taken away from them. The first game went to the team from Hamburg.

The second game started like the first, with the teams probing for a period. Both teams seemed to be just waiting for a mistake from their opponent. Then the momentum was again with mouz when they were able to gain an advantage through several kills. But Schalke had nothing to counter this push, with the 2nd game also going to the Hanseatic team’s way. With the score at 2–0, mouz entered their matchpoint game.

With the memory of Schalke dominating the spring final, the boys from mousesports left nothing to chance in the third game. While the opening stages of the first two games had been quite evenly balanced, mouz moved quickly to put the guys from the Ruhr out of the game. After several big kills and a gold plus, there was no denying mousesports the victory.

More Information

Overall, mouz won the final without any problems and is now the summer split champion of the Prime League. On top of that, mousesports can enjoy being the first seed for the summer European Masters 2020. But Schalke doesn’t go empty-handed either: they are seeded as the second Prime League participant in the main event of the European Masters.

We congratulate mousesports on winning the summer Prime League and are already looking forward to more exciting Prime League matches ahead.
